1. QUALIFICATIONS:

     

  1. High School Diploma/GED, And 32 university/college core credits, Or an Associate’s degree or higher, Or a Paraprofessional Praxis score of 460 or higher.

  2. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.

  3. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.

  4. Patient, yet firm; Willingness to receive and follow direction.

  5. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.

  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board or Director of Special Services may find appropriate and acceptable.

     

  1. REPORTS TO:  Supervising Teacher and Building Administrator.

     

  2. JOB GOALS:

     

         To support the delivery of School District 215’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.

 

         To work closely with general education students, “at-risk” students, and/or special education students on a regular basis to provide them with the support they need to gain full benefits from the District’s regular education, intervention program and/or special education program.

 

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

  1. Helps the teacher provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

  2. Prepares for classroom activities under the supervision of the Supervising Teacher.

  3. Works with small groups of students and/or individual students to reinforce materials initially introduced and/or as directed by the supervising teacher.

  4. Assists individual students in need of intervention, assistance and/or special attention.

  5. Performs clerical duties relating to their assignment.

  6. Guides independent assignments established by the teacher.

  7. As directed by the supervising teacher assists in the implementation of student’s intervention and/or individual education plans. 

  8. Assists teacher with non-instructional and instructional classroom duties.

  9. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work.

  10. Assists in duties relating to the supervision of students as assigned by the Supervising Teacher and Building Principal.

  11. Helps prepare class displays and bulletin boards.

  12. Constructs supplementary materials for use in the classroom under the teacher’s supervision.

  13. Strives to improve and maintain job skills through in-service training programs, district required training, and other means.

  14. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.

  15. Willingness to work with students who may display verbally and/or physically aggressive behaviors. 

  16. Willingness to assist with the implementation of students’ behavioral intervention and health plans.

  17. As needed assists students with self-care needs (e.g. hygiene) and communication needs. 

  18. Has regular and predictable attendance.

  1. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

     

             The exact terms will be determined by the needs of the school, program, and budgetary constraints. 

     

             This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law.  The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 215.

     

  2. EVALUATION:

     

             Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Supervising Teacher and/or Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
