Homeless and Family Community Outreach Liaison Paraprofessional

 

 

  QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. 32 college/university credits, Or an associate’s degree, Or a score of 460 or higher on the Paraprofessional Praxis Examination.
  2. Ability to maintain positive communications and work cooperatively with school personnel, program staff, students, and parents.
  3. Good organizational ability, typing skills, telephone etiquette, and general knowledge of program procedures.
  4. Computer knowledge and experience with word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, etc. Possesses or has a willingness to gain an understanding of the special needs of Homeless families and students, and foster care students.
  5. Knowledge or Willingness to gain knowledge of community resources for families.
  6. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Special & Federal Programs may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Liaison, Building Administration, and Director of Special & Federal programs.

 JOB GOALS:

 

           To support the delivery of School District 215’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test.

 

           To increase the district’s effectiveness in meeting the educational needs of Homeless and foster care students by assisting in the performing a variety of home and school liaison activities, data entry and record keeping tasks, and to support and assist in meeting students’ social-emotional learning needs. 

 

           To assist students in attaining an optimal level of personal and social adjustment 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Engagement Liaison with assistance in serving the behavioral, social, academic and other needs of homeless, foster care, and other at-risk students.
  2. Collaborates and Consults with the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Liaison in helping with teachers, staff, and parents meet the needs of the homeless, foster care, and other at-risk students.
  3. Assists the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Outreach Liaison in Referring students with problems to appropriate resources as needed.
  4. Assists the school counselor(s) and building administration with providing crisis intervention as needed.
  5. Works to become knowledgeable about eligibility requirements for Homeless and foster-care students.
  6. Assists with ensuring that public notice of the educational rights of homeless students is distributed where such students receive services (e.g., schools, family shelters, community centers, health clinics, etc.).
  7. Assists with ensuring that homeless families and students receive educational services for which they are eligible, and referrals to health-care services, dental services, mental health services, and other appropriate services.
  8. Assists with ensuring that the parent of a homeless student, or any unaccompanied student, is fully informed of all transportation services, including transportation to the school of origin, and is assisted in accessing appropriate transportation.

 

  1. Assists with implementing methods and documentation for tracking the number and location of highly mobile/homeless students.
  2. Assists with communicating pertinent student/family background information (home status, medical conditions, legal conditions, etc.) to the building principal and to Special Services.
  3. Assists with notifying Special Services of all Homeless and Foster-care students that have moved in/out of the district.
  4. Assists with collecting data and information on such students that will help the District prepare grant applications and secure services for such students.
  5. In the absence of the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Liaison serves the District Foster Care Point of Contact.
  6. In the absence of the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Liaison serves as a liaison when requested between Homeless and Foster-care families and the schools, continually striving to maintain positive communications and good relations.
  7. In the absence of the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Liaison will complete and e-mail the following reports to the Special Services monthly: Homeless Contact Log and Family Liaison Contact Log summary sheet.
  8. Assists the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Liaison help develop, maintain, and encourage community partnerships, and support schools with building effective ways to partner with community organizations.
  9. Supports and assists the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Liaison with social-emotional learning programs, this may include teaching social-emotional classes and assisting with Schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWBIS) programs.
  10. Support events and activities connected to family engagement at the respective schools.  
  11. Attends in-service classes and other district or building meetings when requested.
  12. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  13. Has regular and predictable attendance.

 OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Performs all other duties as required.

 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

           The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the students and budgetary constraints.  Wages will be in accordance with the Paraprofessional Pay Schedule.

          

           This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law.  The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 215.

 

EVALUATION:

 

    Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Certificated Homeless/Family & Community Liaison and Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
